Looking forward to a busy month of conferences and workshops. On 5th September, I’ll be giving an invited talk on “(Not) Caring to Know and the Vices of Pride” at the conference (Not) Caring to Know: Vice Epistemology Meets Situated Affectivity, University of Pardubice. The conference is part of Laura Candiotto’s Czech Science Foundation project Vicious Epistemic Cultures: thanks to Laura for the invite. On 10th September, also at Pardubice, I’ll be kicking off our conference on The Ethics of Moral Criticism: Moral Grandstanding, Social Punishment and Beyond with a talk entitled “Self-Righteous Moral Criticism, Social Punishment and the Problem of Overreach”. This will be the first conference held under the auspices of my ERC CZ project Combatting Self-Righteousness: we’re delighted to have Linda Radzik and Brandon Warmke as keynotes. We’re finalising the programme and publicity for the conference now: watch this space! Finally, on 17th September I’ll be giving an invited talk at the University of Southampton on “Obstacles to Courage: Kierkegaard, Social Comparison and the Vices of Pride”. This is part of a workshop on Kierkegaard and Intellectual Virtue in Genia Schoenbaumsfeld’s ERC project The Ethics of Doubt: Kierkegaard, Scepticism and Conspiracy Theory.
